How to Invite Instagram Collaborators

Collaborators are co-authors on Instagram feed posts and Reels. Invites go out when the post publishes; accept or decline happens in the Instagram app — not inside Get Shouting.

Before you schedule

  • Select Instagram among your platforms.
  • Use feed image, carousel, or Reel — not Stories (Instagram does not support collaborators on Stories).
  • Only public Instagram usernames can be invited (up to three).

Where to add collaborators

  • Schedule Selector (/schedule-select) — after Schedule My Shout from Preview.
  • Schedule Shout dialog from Campaigns → Organic Social.
  • When Instagram is selected, the Instagram collaborators field appears. Enter usernames with or without @.
  • You cannot edit collaborator handles on a pending scheduled post without delete and republish. After publish, change collaborators in the Instagram app.

After publish — invite status

  • Open Schedule → click the published event, or open the shout and view post details.
  • Use Refresh status on the collaborator panel (opening details may refresh when cache is stale).
  • Statuses: pending, accepted, declined.
  • When someone newly accepts, Get Shouting can show a top-nav notification, Slack (if you use social publish alerts), and email to brand admins — after a refresh detects the acceptance (not realtime unless someone refreshes).

Rules and safety

  • LinkedIn: no API collaborator field — use @mentions in copy instead.
  • If a handle previously declined for your brand, scheduling again shows a warning and may require Invite anyway.
  • Only invite accounts that expect it — repeated declines can risk your Instagram connection per partner guidelines.
  • Publish-time warnings from Instagram appear on the status panel when applicable.

AI assistants (MCP)

  • When scheduling via an connected AI assistant, pass instagramCollaborators on schedule/publish tools (same rules as the app).
  • Status is read-only — refresh on user request; do not poll in a loop.

Not available yet

  • Facebook Reels collaborator (Page co-author) — planned when we publish Facebook Reels through Get Shouting.
  • Partnership ads that show both brand and creator identities on boosted collab posts — separate Meta permissions and UI (see product roadmap).
